‘Matri’- Maeter- Matter- Mother- Motherial – Material
The term ‘material’ is from the term ‘motherial’. The Latin ”Maeter” and Sanskrit ‘Matri’ or ‘Matru’ (meaning ‘mother’) are related. What is called `Matrik Jagat’ , i.e. World of Mother (or made up of mother) in Vedic parlance is called ‘Motherial’ or ‘Material’ world in English !! Thus, the origin of this English term ‘material’ is Vedas !!
In Vedic parlance the physical world is ‘Matrik Jagat’ (Motherial World) because the NATURE (‘Prakriti’) is referred to as the MOTHER FORCE with her own consciousness. NATURE is A SINGLE WHOLE. The cosmos is ONE organic WHOLE. Even the whole body of ‘Tantra’ is a science of ‘Matri-shakti’… the Motherial or Material world !!
But the root cause of the PHYSICAL lies in non-physical finer realms. The PROCESS of knowing the ROOT CAUSE of everything in this universe /creation is Spiritualism. Both physical & non-physical.
” Spiritualism
is an investigation and invention
of the hows & whys
by which matters exists & grows
to the acceleration
of Being & Becoming.”
— Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra ji
And the term ‘ROOT CAUSE’ or ‘BASIC NATURE’ is known as ‘Dharm’ in Sanskrit.
The term `Dharm’ originates from root (dhatu) `dhri’ of Sanskrit which means that which upholds the existence (and furtherance) of anything/everything .
The process of knowing this Dharma is Spiritualism which can also be called Cause-ism.
Thus, Vedic India’s spirituality contains physical sciences as well, like physics, chemistry, biology, energetics, mechanical engineering etc.
